``SITE RULES
These are a bit long, and I would sincerely like to apologize.
» Don’t piss me off. That is the first and most important rule. If you make me mad, you’re going to see hell’s fires, and I don’t think you want that.
» You must be thirteen (13) or older to join this site. If you are under the age of thirteen, please do not register an account. This is a rule put in place by Proboards. If you don’t believe me, please read the Terms of Service (TOS) where it is clearly stated.
» The site rating is PG-13 because we do have some younger members. Please keep content of your posts and threads and such to a minimum. If there is a necessity for a graphic thread including sex or violence (and I don’t see why there would be), please be sure to (1) let me know that there is such a thread and (2) place a rating heading in your thread title (examples include: [M], [X], [R]). It is preferable, however, that you use a technique called “fading” where, rather than role-playing everything out, you fade into what happens afterwards. If you want to know how this is done, please send me a personal message (username: admin).
» Profanity is allowed on the site, but you must keep it to a minimum. It is preferred that you use the words that appear in the Harry Potter books. However, if there is a need for stronger words, you may use them. I do not want to see posts and threads where every other word is a profane word. Again, we have younger members here. Aside from that, some people do not appreciate excessive amounts of profanity (I am one of them).
» Marriage is allowed, but it is also limited. Students are not allowed to marry unless they are seventeen (17) or older. Before they marry, they will need permission from the administration to get married. If two seventh year students want to marry, they will also need a really good plot--so you’d better make sure you have that ready before you send me a message. Adults can marry without consent, but you will need to let me know so that I can announce it--that way, no one is confused if/when the female character changes her last name.
» Pregnancy is allowed. Characters under the age of eighteen (18) are not allowed to get pregnant. If you want your character to get pregnant, please send me a personal message (username: admin). Be sure to have a plot prepared so that I know the reason why your character is getting pregnant. Once everything it set, I will create a “calendar” for the length of time your character will be pregnant. Obviously, this rule applies to those of you playing female characters.
» In addition to the above rule, we all know how pregnancies happen. A man and a woman must be together at a very special time and perform a very special action. Just because your character will be getting pregnant does not mean you have to role-play a sex scene; it is actually preferred that you don’t (which is also an addition to the rule about the rating). The most I would prefer to see typed out is holding hands, hugging, and maybe a bit of kissing. Also, just because your character has sex does not mean she will get pregnant.
» Also in regards to the rating rule, violence can be considered graphic. Harry Potter sites do not generally contain graphic materials since the books are made for people on various reading levels, including little eight-year-old kids who enjoy reading. Violence is likely, yes, but it will not necessarily be physical with blood and gore. There may be times where blood is shed, but is it really likely that Voldemort will go about stabbing Harry with a pitchfork and plucking his eyes out? No. If it doesn’t happen in the books, it is not going to happen here.
» When you register, please be sure that you register with a name and password you will easily remember but other people will not easily be able to figure out. Also, be sure that you register with an email that is yours and that is real; sometimes I will send out reminder emails; other times I may have to turn to account activation setting on if I find that joining and not posting or remaining active is a problem.
» After you register, be sure to change your display name so that it is your character’s first and last name, the first letter of each capitalized (example: admin = The Sorting Hat). No symbols or special characters may be included in your display name, unless it is something such as the ñ or a letter with an accent over it. If you do not know how to do change your display name, I would advise you not to join this site. You should know how to change your display name by now.
» This site is a literate and advanced role-play site. This means that we all use proper grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation--all that jazz, which is known as syntax. Syntax is your friend, not your enemy. If I find that you are running away from proper syntax, I will have to worn you. There is a spell check on the site for a reason; it is freely provided. There are also word processing programs, such as Microsoft Word, which I use. Please use the resources that are given to you!
» Now, also because we are an advanced role-play site, I expect everyone to be posting about four paragraphs each post. Yes, there are times where we are brain dead and can only summon three. That’s alright, but three is the bare MINIMUM! Anyone posting less than three paragraphs will receive a warning. If I have to warn you over and over again, you will be banned. If you are joining this site, you will need to be able to keep up with the posting lengths of the site.
» The above rule leads into this one: BE ACTIVE! You must remain active if you want to be a member here, especially if you are holding a really important, main canon position. If you will be absent for a few days and will not have internet access, please post in the absences board so that we know. If you go inactive without warn, we will send a message to your account, maybe even email you. Afterwards, if there is no response from you, your account will be lost. If you were playing a canon, the canon will become available.
» Speaking of accounts, activity, and characters… I would like to bring to everyone’s attention that you are allowed no more than four accounts. Each account must remain active. Of those accounts, no more than two are allowed to be canon characters. For every female you make, there must be a male--or vice versa. We are trying to keep the ratio of males and females around the same. Also, you may NOT have all of your characters in the same house(s). Sure, you can have two Gryffindors, a Hufflepuff, and a Ravenclaw, but you are not allowed to have four Slytherins. Hogwarts cannot function that way; therefore, neither can this site. The same goes for years! Do not create four sixth and seventh years. We need some younger students on the site. It makes things much more fun!
» Oh, by the way, no godmodding. If you are caught godmodding, you will be warned and eventually banned if it persists. If you feel the need to godmod, get permission from the person whose character you are godmidding and put at the top of your post that you have permission. If you don’t know what godmodding is, don’t join this site.
» I know this may be hard for some of you, but there is to be no changing the colors of posts! There is more than one skin, and it is hard to read colors on top of other colors. Leave the colors of your text in the regular skin text color. You may change the style of your text to whatever you think suits you. You may change the size of your text if you want (if you are using Times New Roman, do NOT change the size of your text to ‘1’); do not use a text size larger than the default text size. You are allowed to use BLOCKQUOTE, but you may only type it in ONE time, unless you are creating class plans and whatnot. You are not allowed to make your text glow, move, or anything of that sort in a regular RP thread post.
» Images are a must. No anime, MySpace, or Facebook people, please. It must be a real celebrity. You are NOT to use showy pictures (guys without shirts are okay, but women in bikinis are a no-no). Avatars are, by default, 100x100 pixels. Signatures can be no larger than 500x300 pixels. If you are using avatars in your signature, please make sure you use no more than five. There are those of us who have dial-up, and it takes forever for things like images to load (believe me… I know… I have dial-up!).
» Please be respectful. Sometimes people annoy you; that’s okay. You can politely ask them to stop annoying you. If the problem persists, let me know and I will handle if. Respect must be extended to the guests since they are possible members. Welcome them, talk to them, be nice to them, tell them how great the site is.
» No prejudice on any of the following: race, religion, economic status, political standing, ethnic group, age, mental capability, sexuality--none of that. If you are being prejudice, you will be asked to leave--and not in a very nice way, either.
» There is a C-Box. Don’t abuse it. Talk nicely. Keep profanity to a minimum. Do not fight. Do not advertise. If you are caught breaking any of the C-Box rules or site rules in the C-Box, you will be in big trouble. If a problem with the C-Box continues, I will be removing it, and you will have to go back to doing things the old way: personal messages and emails.
» Keep all in-character problems in character. And take out-of-character problems elsewhere. No fighting is to be done in the C-Box. If you need to, send the other person a PM or take it to MSN, AIM, YIM, or emails.
» HAVE FUN!
